Firing Shots From The Sky I Travis Jensen

I just came across this lurking through the internet. Pete is getting epic on some legendary SF defunct spots! Hell yea Pete! SO SICK!
........................................................................................................................................................................

My office in San Francisco is located on the 6th Floor of Two Embarcadero Center, overlooking legendary skate spot “Hubba Hideout."

Located in Ferry Park, in the heart of The City’s Financial District, Hubba Hideout consists of two waist-high ledges that align the stairs of the elevated walkway connecting Ferry Park and One Maritime Plaza. Hubba is a nickname for crack cocaine. The spot, which sits on a slight hill surrounded by large trees, earned its nickname in the early ‘90s, as it was a popular incognito place for individuals to congregate and smoke crack, high-level execs in expensive tailor-made suits included.

Now a popular afternoon drinking and weed smoking spot, throughout the 90s and into the early millennium, Hubba Hideout to street skateboarding was like Maverick’s or Pipeline to surfing, meaning you didn’t skate there unless you knew what the hell you were doing.

In the early millennium, the city and many businesses were able to curb skateboarding with the induction of skate-stoppers (steel knobs affixed to ledges, handrails and other surfaces to prevent skateboarding). Hubba was one of the first spots to go. The spot has since been de-knobbed by local vigilante skateboarders at least ten times.

Although there are currently no skate stoppers on the ledges, the city has removed a good chunk of the landing area, making the spot virtually unskateable without lying down a sheet of plywood, masonite or metal. Skateboard wheels don’t do well in gravel.

Occasionally, from the 6th floor of my office, I’ll see skaters -- tourists mostly, sizing up the ledges. Very few actually skate them. They mostly go there to pay homage. However, the other day, I heard the clickety-clack of skateboards and looked down to see professional skateboarders Peter Ramondetta and Brian Anderson, photographer Gabe Morford and a couple other cats that I couldn’t make out gearing up to get down on the ledges. I took this as a que to get my camera.

By the time I got back, Ramondetta was trying backside 50-50s to front º180 out over the gravel gap. I was able to fire off a handful of shots with the zoom lens. There was a large branch in the way, which made it a difficult shot. I was also getting some reflection off the glass. The photo above is the best from the series. I’m not sure if Ramondetta ended up riding away from the trick or not -- I had to go into a meeting, but he was getting damn close when I left.

Now I’m not into poaching photos, but the birds eye view of someone skating Hubba was too good not to shoot.

The other day, I sent the photo to former professional skateboarder Jim Thiebaud (one of my childhood idols), V.P. of Deluxe Distribution. Deluxe houses Real Skateboarders, the board company that sponsors Romendetta. Jim wrote me back a short time later saying, “That is so f*cking sick!” and blessed me using the pic here on my site.

Although this is far from the best photo I’ve taken, considering the circumstances and story behind it, it’s definitely one of my favorites. I’m also quite certain that I’m the first to fire off an aerial shot of someone skating Hubba, which is kind of a fun claim to fame.

Thanks again to Jim for letting me use the shot.

Dennis Busenitz

Hell's yea, So I just saw Jim post up this photo in Twitter. Instantly I knew that I had to pull a jack move on it. I have known Dennis now for shit, over 10 years. All the way back to the days of Athens and Persia house. We both moved in at around the same time, for the both of us it was the first time living in SF. We both have grown so much in that time and it is great to see him at the top of his game going strong after all this time!
This is one of the most relevant photo's of Dennis I have seen in a while. That's how it looks when he is skating, no joke. Fast and clean! No one can keep up!

Stefan Janoski Nike Sb's/ MORE COLORWAY'S

Yesterday a special launch event took place in Los Angeles, to celebrate the release of the new Nike SB Stefan Janoski sneaker. Earlier today we already showed you a new white colorway of the shoe, which will be released on May 8th in black and brown.

At the launch event, Nike SB was showcasing many more new color-ups of the sneaker, including beige/brown options, all black, black croc and pony hair options of the shoe, all looking very solid. The sneaker clearly bridges skateboarding and lifestyle, probably more than any other shoe in the Nike SB range. -hs

GAY FISH Air Yeezy's!?

I don’t know what’s gayer… the price or that South Park cartoon featuring Kayne West. Lets face it that whole Fish*icks joke and this South Park episode will go down in history as one of the best. And then having Kayne West comment on it just made it more funny. This custom sneaker basically is a hallmark to the situation. A custom made sneaker size 12 for $!500 Dollars.

Its not for me… cause I don’t eat fishsticks… but for those who openly admit to eating fishsticks and know the Gordan Fisherman commercial by heart (trust the Gordon Fisherman LOL)

Nike SB Stefan Janovski | White Colorway

Nike SB is hosting the official launch event for their new Stefan Janovski Signature Shoe at the moment in Los Angeles. Aside from the black and brown colorways that we already showed you, we came across this all white colorway today. The sneaker features a white leather upper, white stitching, white sole and lining, as well as white laether laces. Just very clean. So far, we do not know when this colorway comes out, but we will keep you posted!

These are not out yet, but a must cop for when they do! Summer time joints for days!

New HOT FIRE form LAKAI

New drop from Lakai for the season brings us a clean and timeless version from their flagship model, the Telford. Different tumbled and wrinkled leathers all in black make up the upper with just a bit of color seen along the Lakai midsole logo in gold. Check your local Lakai dealer as the suggested retail price is relatively friendly at $74 USD.

Raekwon feat. The Game - Flashback Memories

The sleeping king of Shaolin has made an uncanny return known lately through a number of mixtape appearances. With his latest release, Flashback Memories, the song revisits a reminiscent past for the gritty, mafioso story teller we all grew to admire in the 90’s. The momentous era which is now defined as “The golden age of Hip Hop” is far fetched from today’s contemporary rap music — where lyricism and storytelling were once key, they have now been replaced with the smoked mirrors of image and “club friendly” songs. Rae promises deliver as he did when he was apart of the New York City hip hop era that reigned supreme in the early 90’s. He’s made it clear that OB4CL2 will be keeping true to his roots and going back to what he normally does with no intent on dropping “club friendly” songs to garner commercial success. He refers to his production lineup as a “Gumbo of Heat” and rightfully so, with Hip Hop hall of famers Dr. Dre, Pete Rock, J Dilla and RZA on board, it would be hard to think otherwise. Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2 coming this August 11th, 2009.

UNDR-CRWN Spring 2009 Music Series T-Shirts

UNDRCRWN pays homage to some of the most intelligent and artistic hip hop artists of the late 80’s and 90s. With reinterpretations of classic album covers & artwork, UNDRCRWN delivers 3 new tees that tie back to their roots in music and basketball culture.

UNDRCRWN channels the signature floral print off of De La Soul’s 1989 debut album- 3 Feet High and Rising. Adding a new twist to the meaning of “Me Myself and I” this tee subtly pokes fun at one of the most notorious ball hogs in the league. The caricature style tee pays homage to Paul’s production work on De La Soul’s 3 Feet High and Rising. Prince Paul is pictured sporting UNDRCRWN’s “The Layup” kicks, DJ equipment and a basketball in hand. UNDRCRWN introduced you to the “Keep Bouncing” tee back in Spring 2006. This second generation of tees expands on UNDRCRWN’s love for basketball while honoring A Tribe Called Quests “The Low End Theory”.
